La Sportiva Hill Climb Trail Running Race
Named best trail race by Colorado Runner in 2006 and 2011, the Vail Hill Climb HillClimb will test local, regional and national runners with a 7.5 mile climb from Vail Village to Vail Mountain’s summit, a gain of 2,500 vertical feet. The Vail Hill Climb race begins at 8 a.m. in Vail Village on the paved road located next to Vail’s Mountain Haus and ascends on a gravel trail taking runners to the finish line at Eagle’s Nest. The Eagle Bahn Gondola in LionsHead will operate from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. for race-day spectators and volunteers. The HillClimb is presented by the Vail Mountain Haus and is the third race of the 2009 La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Series.

Vail Mountain, at 5,289 acres (2,140 ha), is the largest single mountain ski resort in the United States, featuring seven bowls and intermediate gladed terrain in Blue Sky Basin. It opened in 1962 and is currently owned and operated by Vail Resorts, which also operates three other ski resorts in the state (Breckenridge, Keystone, and Beaver Creek as well as Heavenly Ski Resort and Northstar at Tahoe, at Lake Tahoe.
