Oh yes! This is the time of year when every mountain aficionado can’t help but wear a slightly bigger smile. Here at PeakVibe, we don’t necessarily favor one season more than others, what we love to celebrate most is the variety pack of awesome climate conditions that we are so fortunate to have. The change is what it is all about. Most of us are sad to see our biking and hiking season fade away, however the sadness is short lived when you realize that we can just simply swap our bikes for skis and snowboards, press the reset button on our mountain activities, and fall in love all over again. The beginning of every winter season brings a certain routine that conscious or not, we seem to repeat year after year. We watch ski and snowboard movies of the year past, dust off our gear, and evaluate if we really do need that new board or those hot fire iridium goggles. It’s routine, but it’s like the smell of cinnamon and nutmeg for the holiday season, you are destined to experience it one way or another, and once you do you get that feeling deep inside, you just know it’s time to shred. Well, sadly we all somewhat knew this was coming, but to this extent, we don’t think anyone could have imagined… Our entire state is on fire, with more and more lighting up everyday. It’s hard to watch this happening and feel powerless to help save the land we all love to play in so much. Here we have compiled a list of resources on how to help the firefighters and those displaced from their homes, or worse… PeakVibe sends our condolences to those who have lost homes and property and our sincerest thanks to the insanely tough firefighters who are out there working 24 hours to suppress these fires.

The Teva Mountain Games have become a staple of the summer events in the Colorado mountains, and seems to get bigger and bigger every year.

The 11th annual Teva Mountain Games took place in Vail, May 31-June 3, 2012. The festival is the nation’s largest celebration of adventure sports, lifestyle and music featuring top professional and amateur athletes from around the world. Approximately 2,500 athletes were in attendance on Vail’s mountains and rivers to compete in eight sports and 24 disciplines for over $100,000 in prize money. Competitions at the festival included: kayaking, rafting, stand-up paddling, mountain biking, road cycling, World Cup bouldering, fly-fishing, trail running and a road half marathon. The festival also features: a film series, Outdoor Reels; a photography competition, Mountain Click; an interactive expo area, Gear Town; DockDog canine competitions; free concerts at Mountains of Music and the Teva Mountain Ball. The Teva Mountain Games are a project of the Vail Valley Foundation.

PeakVibe’s media team was at the event to enjoy the festivities and to provide a look at one of Colorado’s premiere summer events.
